Rare Chinese Blue and White Porcelain Vase and Cover

Kangxi period, AD 1662-1722

Description

Decorated overall with a large-scale lotus pond with herons, symbolic of purity, good fortune, and long life. All finely painted in varying tones of underglaze blue, much in the style of blue and white decoration from the iconic Chenghua period (Ming dynasty).
Height: 16 inches (40.6 cm.)

It is very rare to encounter a vase with this type of decoration. Plates are the more usual type, more often found with blue and white and occasionally in famille verte decoration.
