Japanese Arita Ware Imari Porcelain Coffeepot

Edo period, late 17th/ early 18th century

Description

Based upon a European type but recast with exuberant Japanese molded relief decoration depicting the Seven gods of Good Fortune enjoying a festive meal in a cherry blossom garden; the neck, with shippo geometric patterns and rabbits, the cover decorated with two dragons, all resting upon three exuberant elephantine scrollwork feet.
