Fine Pair of Chinese Export Porcelain Peach-Toned Covered "Pistol-Handled" Urns

Ca: 1790- 1815

Description

Of fine classic form and of unusual color (usually found in blue and white or famille rose tones).  Decorated with floral medallions, all finely set against a peach-toned ground with gilding.  Surmounted by a dome shaped cover with knob finial.  Of fine and impressive form, and very beautifully decoration.
Height: 14 ¾ inches (37.5 cm.)
Greatest width: 9 inches (22.8 cm.)
Depth: 7 ¼ inches (18.5 cm.)
An almost identical pair of Urns are in the American Wing of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Another pair are in The Diplomatic Reception Rooms, U.S. Department of State, Washington, D.C.
Others of varying type and decoration are in important American and European collections including many at Winterthur.
